2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Rhinoceros unicornis, Chitwan National Park, Nepal
One of 645

Species: Rhinoceros unicornis | Location: Chitwan National Park, Nepal

This photo was taken during an early morning Jeep Safari in Chitwan National Park. Typically, the guides must scan their eyes over the tall grass to spot the rhinos, but this one was grazing out in the open, allowing for some great photographs. The one-horned rhinoceros is an endangered species, but thanks to anti-poaching activities their numbers have risen dramatically (from 375 to 645 between 2005-2015) in Nepal.
