Species: American Bison | Location: Yellowstone NP, Wyoming, United States of America
Two bison patiently await the morning sun to burn through the steam and melt the nighttime frost from their coats. In winter, bison gather around the thermal fields for warmth and the remnants of forage showing through the melted snow. At night, the steam that enshrouds them crystallizes onto their hair, especially around their heads…a natural frosting. They endure, but don’t look happy.
About The Photographer
After decades of travel and landscape photography using film equipment, I was introduced to digital SLR technology during a winter photography safari to Yellowstone in 2006. Digital techniques rejuvenated my photographic enthusiasm. Nature, wildlife, and landscape remain my principal subjects, with occasional forays into architectural and macro photography.
