Ferruginous Hawk, Bosque del Apache NWR, New Mexico, United States of America
Ferruginous Hawk on patrol

Species: Ferruginous Hawk | Location: Bosque del Apache NWR, New Mexico, United States of America

Bosque del Apache is justifiably known for the abundance and accessibility of winter birds. This hawk was cruising the grasslands in search of a morning meal. Cloudy bright skies provided enough light for the fast shutter speed without strong shadows and contrast.

About The Photographer

After decades of travel and landscape photography using film equipment, I was introduced to digital SLR technology during a winter photography safari to Yellowstone in 2006. Digital techniques rejuvenated my photographic enthusiasm. Nature, wildlife, and landscape remain my principal subjects, with occasional forays into architectural and macro photography.
