2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Green Macaw, Sarapiqui, Costa Rica
What are you looking at?

Species: Green Macaw | Location: Sarapiqui, Costa Rica

Green macaws are endangered primarily due to habitat loss. They are very hard to spot, let alone get close enough to photograph. I was hiking around the Ara Ambigua Lodge in Costa Rica when I heard the macaws. I followed them and was able to get some shots of them eating in a tree. I like this shot because both birds are paused in the same position with the same expressions.

About The Photographer

Cropped dscf2505 2
I am very fond of taking photos whenever I go anywhere - particularly of animals. I am an adjunct instructor at Salisbury University in Maryland. I am fortunate to teach a course every spring on the History of Zoological Institutions which has a field trip to the National Zoo. I also teach a course in Costa Rica on biodiversity and ecotourism during the winter term. I always have a camera in hand for these events .I describe myself as knowing just enough about photography to be dangerous but not really know what I am doing!
