2017 Wildlife Photo Contest

Mountain Gorilla / Kavuyo, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park , Uganda
Blackback Gorilla Bwinidi Impenetrable Forest

Species: Mountain Gorilla / Kavuyo | Location: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park , Uganda

After trekking for almost 3 hours through Bwindi, we neared the habituated gorilla family, Habinyanja. As we cleared a path through the dense jungle, we found ourselves face to face with the family's blackback, Kavuyo. After catching my breath from the realization we were now among a family of gorilla, I lifted my camera and snapped one photo before lowering it again to allow myself the opportunity to take in my surroundings and our new new hosts. Kavuyo's demeanor was reminiscent of someone ruminating and lost in his own thoughts. Sharing this moment with him was unforgettable.

About The Photographer

Cropped dsc 2216
I picked up my first DSLR when I was invited to on an overseas trip to asia and have been hooked on photography since. As an amatuer, I truly enjoy opportunities to photograph wildlife above all else. Looking back at images of animal encounters take me right back to the moment and remind me how incredible wildlife viewing is.
