Pangolin, Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, South Africa, South Africa
Impolite Pangolin

Species: Pangolin | Location: Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, South Africa, South Africa

A Pangolin sighting may be the Holy Grail of Safari Viewings. In the Kalahari Desert in the Southern African winter pangolin occasionally forage in the late afternoons, increasing the chances of catching a glimpse of this rare and amazing creature. We found this pangolin female about an hour before sunset after some extensive tracking and enjoyed watching her for more than an hour as she dug around in the red Kalahari sands looking for ants and termites. I was lying on the ground about 15 meters from her when she decided to stick out the long, sticky tongue she uses to catch her food.
