Rocky Mountain Elk (Cervus canadensis nelsoni), Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado (Moraine Park region), United States of America
In Hot Pursuit

Species: Rocky Mountain Elk (Cervus canadensis nelsoni) | Location: Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado (Moraine Park region), United States of America

Two cows strayed from this herd bull's harem and he was not going to tolerate it. He left the harem to chase down the errant cows. A few minutes later the cows returned followed by this bull. He then had to chase off a couple of younger, marauding bulls who had invaded the harem.

About The Photographer

I have lived in Colorado all of my life and have always had a fascination with the outdoors. The distinctive and diverse landscape of the American West have provided the backdrop for my passion, photography. The source of my inspiration has been the vast expanse of the western landscape, its abundant wildlife and the historical heritage. Utilizing a digital camera, I like the challenge of bringing together the necessary elements of light and composition to capture the essence and character of my subject. Nature provides a paradox of strength and vulnerability, of harshness and delicateness. It is unforgiving and resilient. I strive to capture the subtlety and intricacy of nature in my photography. My goal is to help people connect with the natural world through my images.
