Gone Fishin’
Watching and photographing brown bears at Brooks Falls, Katmai National Park, Alaska is a fascinating experience. Here is just one of hundreds of photographs I took as the bears caught and gorged on salmon struggling upstream to spawn. This bruin has just surfaced with a beautiful salmon in his chops. The bear will carry the fish to shore or a rock where it will tear it apart with powerful jaws and claws while the salmon is still flopping. That’s fresh! Gulls wait respectfully nearby to pick up the scraps. Sometimes a bald eagle would swoop in to gather scraps ahead of the gulls.
