Lion, Kalahari Desert, Botswana
Kalahari Lioness & Cubs

Species: Lion | Location: Kalahari Desert, Botswana

On the morning of our last day of a 3 day visit to the Kalahari desert of Botswana our guide finally found the lion family that he knew was in the area. We followed a big male and 2 females as they purposefully headed through the grass. They eventually reached a small grove of trees where the male and 1 female settled down while the other female disappeared. She returned after a few minutes with the 2 cubs shown in the photo and began nursing them. After they finished nursing they took turns nuzzling mom. In the photo the cub to the left had finished and moved off and the second was in the process. Mom appears to be saying "I wish they were this quiet and behaved all the time."
