Gannet, Bass Rock, North Berwick, Scotland , United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
living rock

Species: Gannet | Location: Bass Rock, North Berwick, Scotland , United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Bass Rock, North Berwick, Scotland: formed over 320 million years ago by volcanic activity, it's currently home to over 150,000 gannets- the biggest northern gannet colony in the world. Nesting in pairs, these birds have taken over the otherwise unpopulated island, reclaiming the remains of a non-functioning lighthouse and early-Christian religious retreat.
