Lion, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda
Sleeping on High

Species: Lion | Location: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one only two places in the world where lions climb tree. Here they are known as the Lions of Ishasha. It is thought that they climb trees to escape the biting insects on the ground, but no one knows if that is the reason. we were lucky enough to come upon four mature lions sleeping in a giant tree. This particular pregnant female did not even open its eyes to check us out.

it appeared to be very content to escape the heat of the day in the shady treetops.
