Acorn Woodpecker and Insect, Above a vineyard near Calistoga, CA, United States of America
Inflight Dining

Species: Acorn Woodpecker and Insect | Location: Above a vineyard near Calistoga, CA, United States of America

Acorn Woodpecker out on his morning run, about to capture a tasty insect in mid-flight. It took me about 4 hours to capture this shot. It was impossible to see the insect through the viewfinder, but I knew when one was about to be eaten by observing the behavior of the bird, who would make a quick turn just before capturing his meal.
