African Wild Dog, Gomoti Reserve, Botswana
Wild dogs devouring a kudu

Species: African Wild Dog | Location: Gomoti Reserve, Botswana

We followed this pack of wild dogs as they took down a kudu and devoured it in about 5 minutes. They occasionally scanned for approaching lions, allowing this photo of bloody jowls. This dog had a tracker on her neck, part of a research effort in the park. Wild dogs are endangered, and tracking their activity is one way to ensure that habitats are managed for their protection.
