About The Photographer

Cropped joel davidson
Photography has been my passion since I was a young boy. My initial introduction into the world of photography was with a Kodak Brownie camera. At the age of 13, my favorite Aunt granted my wish and bought me a Polaroid. I continued to upgrade from one generation of camera to the next, including 35mm, medium format, large format and now digital cameras. I thoroughly enjoy photography because it forces me to carefully study, observe and record the world around me. I work to convey the essence of a person, place, animal or bird in a fraction of a second. I am particularly interested in portraiture whether it is in my private studio or when visiting foreign countries. When traveling, I try to build a rapport with individuals and hope I am then given permission to photograph them. This process has been a rewarding experience for me personally. Through my images, I try to tell a story or evoke an emotion in those who view my work. I am passionate about photographing wildlife. I am always amazed at how much I learn and understand nature by observing wildlife in their natural habitats. The patience and commitment it takes to capture these precious moments are an investment that has greatly enriched my life. I am proud to have seven of my prints permanently displayed at the University Hospitals in Cleveland and one of my images exhibited in a museum show in Vancouver. I have served as a judge and submitted images to competitions and won several awards. Santa Fe Photographic Workshop has used two of my images in their promotional catalog. I have made presentations at the Connecticut Audubon Center and to the Charter Oak Photographic Society. At the South Windsor Library, I had a solo photography show of portrait images from Haiti and Cuba named "The Essence of the Human Spirit." I published my first book "Faces of Haiti" in June 2014, and my second book "Jerusalem - Observing the Observant" in December 2015.
