2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Cheetah, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya
Dancing with a Cheetah

Species: Cheetah | Location: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya

It took a lot of patience and over an hour of us waiting to see this female cheetah take down a baby giraffe. Momma was hungry and focused, as her four semi-adult cubs lagged behind, more focused on playful tackling and wrestling than looking for food. Once their mother knew the exact moment to attack, they swiftly followed her, each taking a leg while their mother attacked the giraffe's neck. Their hunt was a success, as the mother giraffe watched this family of cheetahs take down her offspring.
