Panthera leo/Lion, Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
The vultures haven't landed..yet

Species: Panthera leo/Lion | Location: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

A stressful morning for this lioness as two brothers moved in to take over the pride. After hiding her cubs on a distant hill, the mother and male lion pictured took off on a long stretch running across the Maasai Mara. Here, stressed and exhausted, the mother scolds the male lion in front of her as his brother hunts for the cubs up on the hill. You could hear the anger and desperation in her roar. Our guides believe the cubs were hidden safely in a hyena den. The vultures circled overhead, but never landed. A sign that tells us the cubs survived the morning. The entire reserve was eerily quiet as it seemed all the animals kept a low profile after this dramatic morning.
