Rock monitor lizard, Linyanti Private Reserve, Botswana
Here's Licking at You, Kid

Species: Rock monitor lizard | Location: Linyanti Private Reserve, Botswana

This three-foot-long rock monitor lizard traversed all over Savuti Camp in northern Botswana hunting for food -- under the tents, in the trees, on the thatched roof of the camp's main lounge and dining area -- and eventually even found its way inside onto the wooden roof beams of the structure. Although I managed to capture one moment when rock monitor lizard extended its forked tongue to follow a scent trail, I never did see if it managed to get a more tasty meal than a few insects.
