African elephants, Linyanti Private Reserve, Botswana
Face Off

Species: African elephants | Location: Linyanti Private Reserve, Botswana

These young male elephants spent several minutes sizing each other up near Savuti Camp in northern Botswana. As the herd finished drinking from the Savuti Channel in the Linyanti Private Reserve, these young males began to tussle, with their trunks intertwined. The confrontation escalated, with the elephants eventually facing off against one another. Ultimately, though, the tension was diffused, and the two joined the rest of the herd as they moved away from the water and back into the trees.
