Species: Gentoo Penguin | Location: Anverse Island, Antarctic Peninsula, Antarctica
While on-board our motorized Zodiak inflatable, cruising around several small islets off the shore of Anverse Island, west of the Antarctic Peninsula, we came across several Gentoo Penguins from a local rookery, heading to the ocean for their morning swim and hunt for their daily stock of fish. Their negotiating of the rocky slopes down to the water, with their short stubby feet, required due care and attention, but once water-borne, they vanished with incredible speed and dexterity.
About The Photographer
As a photography enthusiast, capturing images of the world around me has almost always been a strong interest. Almost 40 years ago, I especially became enthralled with the essence of photography after viewing presentations where other local photography enthusiasts displayed the wonders of the natural landscape and wildlife world that surrounds us. The adoption of the realm of digital photography in 2004 has, like it has for countless others, exploded the opportunities to pursue this form of artistic medium. More so now, in my retirement years, having the opportunity to travel more, I've also found photography to be an excellent medium to chronicle the places my wife and I have traveled to, revealing, in addition to local cultures, the presence of unique geographic features and wildlife diversity. These collections of photographic insights have served us well, as we are now able to most-willingly offer complementary presentations on our journey experiences to varied locations around the globe, allowing others to visit these places along with us, even if only doing so vicariously.
