Species: Polar Bear | Location: Churchill Wildlife Management Area (Manitoba), Canada
While exploring the northern Manitoba tundra in our customized "Tundra Buggy", we came across this female polar bear and her 11-month old cub, patiently waiting for Hudson's Bay to freeze over so that they could begin their hunting quest for Ringed Seals. Saving energy with numerous daily resting periods, time was taken at this moment to relax in the middle of a frozen inland wetland, the cub reflecting its security by cuddling alongside its mother and providing her with a reassuring lick.
About The Photographer
As a photography enthusiast, capturing images of the world around me has almost always been a strong interest. Almost 40 years ago, I especially became enthralled with the essence of photography after viewing presentations where other local photography enthusiasts displayed the wonders of the natural landscape and wildlife world that surrounds us. The adoption of the realm of digital photography in 2004 has, like it has for countless others, exploded the opportunities to pursue this form of artistic medium. More so now, in my retirement years, having the opportunity to travel more, I've also found photography to be an excellent medium to chronicle the places my wife and I have traveled to, revealing, in addition to local cultures, the presence of unique geographic features and wildlife diversity. These collections of photographic insights have served us well, as we are now able to most-willingly offer complementary presentations on our journey experiences to varied locations around the globe, allowing others to visit these places along with us, even if only doing so vicariously.
