2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Swan signets, Bayfront Park, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Springing to Life

Species: Swan signets | Location: Bayfront Park, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

A swan made her nest in Bayfront Park (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada), near the shore. Using a long lens I was able to leave a good distance to respect the wildlife and the space they need, while still getting a shot of the signets napping alongside some eggs that hadn't hatched yet.

The title I chose is meant to be a humorous contrast to what is seen in the photo. Instead, it's about spring being the time of year for new life.

About The Photographer

Cropped jay 2

Growing up in northern Ontario created within me a sense of adventure and a love of the outdoors. Friends and I would spend hours throughout the summer, biking, hiking, camping, fishing, boating or swimming in the lake. So, it's no surprise my favourite subjects to photograph are nature and wildlife. Both for their beauty and, the latter, because of the feeling of accomplishment when I get "the shot". There's not usually a way to control the animal, the lighting or the environment so when it all comes together in a perfect moment, and the shutter clicks, it's truly a fantastic feeling.
