Species: Tree Swallow | Location: George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary, Delta, British Columbia, Canada
This photo was taken in one of Canada's most remarkable birding areas, the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary, in Delta, British Columbia. When they arrive in March, Tree Swallows are quite frisky and very vocal. They are constantly looking for the best places to perch and are very evidently trying to find the best nesting areas. They can get quite aggressive with each other as they are staking their territory. This behaviour, combined with their resplendent breeding plumage in early spring, makes for many great photo opportunities. Getting a photo as sharp as this one can be a matter of luck, as these birds are constantly on the move.
About The Photographer
I am a lifelong birder and photographer who found his inspiration on North America's Pacific Northwest Coast (in British Columbia, Canada). Although I specialize in bird photos, I am also fascinated by all that nature can throw at me.
