2016 has been a big year at the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge where 90% of the world's population of Elegant Terns chose to nest this season. In this photo, adults and chicks are roosting at the nesting colony.
About The Photographer
I am a doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma. I study seabirds and develop tracking technology to document seabird and shorebird migration. I've had a camera since I was a kid, and I enjoy it so much that Ihave incorporated it into my research on terns and skimmers.
