Species: Bald Eagle | Location: Florida, United States
This photo was taken in Greenwood Cemetery near downtown Orlando, Florida. I had been watching the breeding pair of bald eagles during their entire nesting season and I learned a pattern that helped me get this photo. The male eagle would typically go off to hunt in the afternoon and would usually bring something back to the nest just before sunset. I have quite a few photos of this behavior, but it was a unique circumstance with this series that made this photo. The male eagle typically would eat some of his prey prior bringing it back to the nest, so in most cases the scene was a little gory. This, along with the eagle's obvious agitated state makes it almost seem to me he was protecting a sleeping Coot nestled in his talons.
