2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Reindeer, Yamal Autonomous Region, Russia
The Poser

Species: Reindeer | Location: Yamal Autonomous Region, Russia

The Poser was taken at the most expected of moments- during a pee break in the sparse Siberian Tundra. So I learnt the embarrassing way that reindeers seek out human pee to replenish their Potassium levels out in this harsh environment. Despite taking hundreds of reindeer photos on this trip, none stood out like The Poser. This was a moment which caught the both of us by surprise- him wondering if he should take another step towards my pee and me trying to grab for my camera as gingerly as possible with my pants down so as not to scare him away. A perfect moment in the wild.
