Coati and raccoon, Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Coati helps raccoon

Species: Coati and raccoon | Location: Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica

This photo was taken in the wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation. I know that photo with animals in captivity should not be submitted, but I hope that amazing act of help of one animal to another animal can justify this submission. The setup was as following: The raccoon decided to take a swim in the pond. Since his hind legs are injured and disabled, he was not able to climb up the slippery wall and get out of the pond. That's when the coati (coatimundi), who lives with 2 raccoons and anteater in this enclosure, rushed to the help and pulled the raccoon with her paw out of the water! Amazing fact of compassion and friendship between animals! I was lucky to make this shot.
