Elephant Seal, Kings Range Conservation Area, Lost Coast Trail, United States
Elephant Seal Herd

Species: Elephant Seal | Location: Kings Range Conservation Area, Lost Coast Trail, United States

The newest addition to the Lost Coast Trail in Northern California, this Elephant Seal herd is now the northernmost herd in the US. While exciting for thru-hikers to see them, their appearance may be due to warming coastal waters caused by manmade climate change. The Lost Coast Trail is a secluded 25 mile stretch of pristine California coastline, and like the rest of the coast is facing challenges from new environmental pressures.
