Species: Guira cuckoos | Location: Fazenda San Francisco, Brazil
At dawn, we awoke to find these Guira cuckoos roosting on the branch in the morning golden light. One is facing the wrong way and another is trying to push in and benefit from the communal warmth! From a distance they resembled a giant caterpillar - still happens when a small image is seen but the full-size reveals the deception. A few minutes later they had gone off to feed but had been replaced by a similar number of grooved ani - must be a comfortable and popular perch.
