About The Photographer
In response to the rapid decline of shark species around the world I created Shark Team One, a conservation expedition organization.
Shark Team One plays an important role protecting sharks and ocean ecosystems with conservation projects, outreach initiatives and citizen science expeditions to worldwide locations where endangered shark species can still be found.
Photography is a powerful tool for everything I do as a conservationist. I use images for outreach, science projects and educating people about endangered species. Whether it be photographing great hammerhead sharks off Bimini in the Bahamas to documenting coral bleaching or overfishing in South Florida, I am always on the lookout for ways to use my artistic eye to create ocean awareness.
In addition to founding Shark Team One, I am also a member of Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative (SEFCRI) A National Action Plan by United States Coral Reef Task Force (USCRTF) and am a Working Group Member Representing Non-Governmental Organizations for Florida DEP’s program “Our Florida Reefs,” a community planning process for conservation of Southeast Florida’s coral reef tract.
In 2015 I was inducted into the Ocean Artists Society (OAS) for conservation photography and am an associate member of Women Diver’s Hall of Fame.
It’s wonderful being a photographer and working in conservation because there is always a need for visuals. Images can generate awe, document change and call attention to ocean issues. Photography is a powerful tool, it can move people to take action and truly make a difference.
