2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

King Penguin, Volunteer Point, East Falkland Island, Falkland Islands
King Chick

Species: King Penguin | Location: Volunteer Point, East Falkland Island, Falkland Islands

This was one of 2 King Penguin chicks who were probably 11 months old at Volunteer Point when I was there this February 2016. These "juniors" appeared to be scowling, probably because they were "betwixt and between", i.e., neither chicks nor adults. But I am anthropomorphizing them. They stood out in their brown furry coat. I was watching this junior when all of a sudden it started to mimic the adults' shouting antics and I took this shot.
