During springtime there are many bees pollinating the flowers in my hometown. This bee in particular would hover upside down underneath some of the flowers in order to pollinate them which was quite funny to watch but also very difficult to photograph because the bee quickly moves from flower to flower without hesitation.
About The Photographer
With my legs folded and pressed against the slats of my treehouse, I let my index finger rest gently on the shutter release button of my dad’s camera. Tossing my drawings to the side, I peered out from behind the slats of wood to watch for any movement around the bird house that stood at the edge of our garden. My eight year old mind willed the bird to peek his head out in the same way he’d been doing for the past couple minutes. When he did, I pushed down the shutter release and captured my first photograph of wildlife.
The day I took this picture, I realized that I loved photographing nature. I used to sit by my garden and draw the creatures around me, but I never could capture them on paper the way I wanted to. With photography I could finally accurately depict things such as the personality of a blue jay, without people turning their head ninety degrees and asking if my bird was a cat. It is always exciting to take the perfect picture, however the best part of making any photograph, is the patient process of observing an animal’s true behavior.
