2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

King Penguin, Volunteer Point, East Falkland Island, Falkland Islands
King Chick and Parent

Species: King Penguin | Location: Volunteer Point, East Falkland Island, Falkland Islands

This photo was taken at Volunteer Point in the East Falklands on February 2016. At that time of the year, there were many baby penguin chicks at Volunteer Point. There were Gentoo penguin chicks, Magellanic penguin chicks and King penguin chicks. I was mesmerized by this little King chick, probably a couple of months old, who was beginning to come into its own existence as a King Penguin. In this photo, It was flapping its little arms to the parent's amazement or bewilderment, depending on one's interpretation.
