Species: Lion | Location: Busanga Plains, Zambia
We encountered some lions from the Papyrus pride. There were two adult females and three cubs that were almost fully grown at about 2 years old. Their bulging bellies told the tale of a kill last night, made at the other side of the plains. The lions, now satiated, were looking for a shady place to rest. They walked steadily to a stream. The first lioness leaped across with very little hesitation. The other adult female did the same. The cubs dithered, and finally the first two gave it a try, falling short and dipping their hind ends into the water. They lions waited for the third cub, who really didn’t want to cross. After a few pitiful cries she took the leap and, like her siblings, she didn’t make it across without getting wet, but finally the family was reunited on the other side of the water and moved purposefully on.
