Stately predator in the midnight sun
Species: Polar bear | Location: on the pack ice north of the island, Spitzbergen
We were just over 81 degrees north latitude above the island of Spitzbergen in an ice-strengthened ship when we looked out over the pack ice, glowing in the midnight sun, to see this solitary bear stalking the ice. Out on deck, we watched this mighty predator walking in isolation.
