Gentoo penguin, Port Lockroy, Antarctica
Indignant gentoo penguin chicks

Species: Gentoo penguin | Location: Port Lockroy, Antarctica

We had made a stop at Port Lockroy, a base which has been preserved by the British Antarctic Trust for its historical significance. Cruise ships carry maintenance crew to and from the island for their four month shift, bring supplies and fresh water and cart out garbage. The staff at Port Lockroy have no boat, so they can't even go to the rocky island just across a small channel that we got to visit after our stop at the base. The island was chock full of nesting blue-eyed shags and gentoo penguins, including this pair of chicks who had a lot to say for themselves.
