Species: White-lined leaf frog, Phyllomedusa vaillantii | Location: Yasuní National Park, Ecuador
This white-lined leaf frog (Phyllomedusa vaillantii) perches in Amazonian Ecuador, her pitch-black solitude invaded by my flash of inescapable light. In this moment, I realize that her helplessness is analogous to the threats all species face from human activity. Disruptions such as oil drilling, deforestation, and climate change jeopardize worldwide biodiversity. The fear that I see in her eyes is justified; her next human encounter would likely be her last.
About The Photographer
Traveling has always been a passion of mine and I enjoy taking photographs of people, animals, and scenery. This past semester, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend 1 month in Ecuador's Amazon Rainforest, where I photographed many insects, reptiles, birds, and amphibians.
