Panthera tigris tigris, Ranthambore National Park, India
Siblings on the Prowl

Species: Panthera tigris tigris | Location: Ranthambore National Park, India

Game drives in Ranthambore are limited to the early morning and late afternoon hours when animals are most active and still visible. We were fortunate to see tigers on two out of three game drives, due in great part to the skills of our local guide. We watched in amazement as the 1.5-year old brother and sister Bengal tigers played and rubbed up against each other (much like domestic cats do), and then lay in a small stream. They truly enjoyed each other's company. It saddened us to learn that, soon, both siblings would separate and leave their mother's territory, with the likelihood that each would consider the other a competitor, intruder or enemy, when and if their paths next crossed.

About The Photographer

I am a biologist/geologist and work for a state environmental protection agency . I also have an artistic side that I have been trying to cultivate more aggressively as I approach retirement. Animals have always been my passion and I try to travel each year to a new exotic destination where I can observe new wildlife and plants and experience new (human) cultures. I am an amateur photographer, but try to hone my skills with each new adventure.
