2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Cheetah, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
After the Hunt

Species: Cheetah | Location: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

I took this photo after watching this cheetah take down a gazelle. The chase happened so fast, I was unable to grab my camera quick enough to snap a photo of the action. After the hunt, to my surprise, the cheetah did not feast right away. Instead, the cat rested, stretched, and yawned on a nearby mound for several minutes before enjoying a hard earned reward.

About The Photographer

I would never call myself a photographer. However, I am an avid traveler, nature and animal lover, and I love capturing the beauty of wildlife in their natural moments. I find observing animals in the wild to be an exhilarating and awe-inspiring experience to the point where I plan my vacations based on where I would have the best chances of spotting wildlife. Part of the exhilaration comes from the challenge of not only spotting creatures that are often very elusive, but capturing them in those exciting moments when they might make momentary eye contact with you or engage in natural behaviors like playing, grooming, hunting, feeding, or evading dangers. Getting out there and trying to capture wildlife with your camera really makes you appreciate the skill and patience it takes to be a professional wildlife photographer.
