2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Trumpeter Swan, Yellowstone NP, Madison River
Winter evening departure, Madison River, Yellowstone

Species: Trumpeter Swan | Location: Yellowstone NP, Madison River

On late winter evenings, Trumpeter Swans gathered along the Madison River begin to stir. Abruptly a leader takes off, quickly followed by others of the flock. Patience and the correct location allowed our group to photograph the birds backlit by the last rays of the setting sun.

About The Photographer

After decades of travel and landscape photography using film equipment, I was introduced to digital SLR technology during a winter photography safari to Yellowstone in 2006. Digital techniques rejuvenated my photographic enthusiasm. Nature, wildlife, and landscape remain my principal subjects, with occasional forays into architectural and macro photography.
