Species: Green sea turtle | Location: Hawaii, USA
Swimming with sea turtles is so relaxing. I feel that they are as interested in us as much as we are of them.
I wrote the following to go with this photo:
HONU
I catch your dark shadow in the corner of my eye. Hello my friend it's good to see you again. Your eyes, big, brown and wise look into mine. My eyes see their own reflection in the hues of your shell. Our eyes glisten amidst our reunion.
HAPPINESS
Together we drift and we float. We work with the ocean. If we fight it we are sure to lose. If we can find our rhythm in it, it's strength becomes ours and we are able to fly.
ONENESS
I stay clear of the rocks where you have a good meal. Your protection is strong, that shell you have on. Those hard and sharp rocks that live under the sea won't cut you like they would me. I too have a shell like you. But it is in my flesh so you can't see, how it protects me from the sharp and hard people that live above the sea.
NECESSARY
With you I swim down to the depth of the sea. I go until I can not hold my breath a moment more. With one quick flick of my flippered feet I wait for the air that remains in my lungs to lift my body upward. The surface broken, the air in motion.
