Species: Uinta Ground Squirrel | Location: Yellowstone National Park, Soda Butte Picnic Area, United States

A Uinta Ground Squirrel chattering away at the Soda Butte Picnic Area in northern Yellowstone National Park on the morning of August 19th, 2013. I had been traversing the Lamar Valley since dawn when I pulled over for a break at the picnic area pull-out and noticed this ubiquitous rodent and his fellow pack members scampering around their burrows or working on their tans in the warm morning sun. This guy put on a great show of alternately dipping in and out of his particular warren and standing up to give warning chirps altering others to my presence. Either that or he was auditioning...
