2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Rynchops niger, Black Skimmer, St. Marks NWR - Florida, United States
Black Skimmer Skimming

Species: Rynchops niger, Black Skimmer | Location: St. Marks NWR - Florida, United States

Near the lighthouse in St. Marks NWR, I saw two Black Skimmers flying over the lighthouse pond and they started making passes skimming the pond early in the morning. I grabbed my camera and tripod and looked for a location to get good composition for my shot. Both of the Black Skimmers were flying quite fast over the water and made it difficult to track. Shooting at a high shutter speed I was able to get several great shots of this beautiful bird.
