Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae), Juneau, Alaska, United States
Humpback Whale

Species: Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) | Location: Juneau, Alaska, United States

Seeing one of the world's largest animals rise into the sky is an extraordinary experience. This Humpback Whale did a surprise breach off Juneau Alaska, and I was fortunate to be pointing my camera in the right direction at the right moment. Despite the ban on whaling in most parts of the world, many whale species are still at risk from collisions with ships, depletion of fisheries, military sonar, discarded nets and other pollution.
