Rosy-faced Lovebirds (Agapornis roseicollis), Tucson, Arizona, United States
Lovebirds and Ocotillos

Species: Rosy-faced Lovebirds (Agapornis roseicollis) | Location: Tucson, Arizona, United States

Native to arid regions of southwest Africa, Rosy-faced Lovebirds have established a breeding population in Arizona. These two small, colorful parrots appeared on the outskirts of Tucson during the March 2016 Ocotillo bloom. Globally, parrots are one of the most threatened bird groups. BirdLife International has estimated that over half of all parrot species are in decline, due in large part to habitat loss, hunting, and trapping for pets.
