2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Bald Eagle, San Juan Islands, Washington State, USA
Mission Focus

Species: Bald Eagle | Location: San Juan Islands, Washington State, USA

We were hiking near Roche Harbor on San Juan Island in Washington State. Several bald eagles were gathered near a bay, and one swept by to see if we were throwing out scraps of meat (apparently some of the locals do that). On first inspection of the photos from that day I put this in the not-interesting file because it was not well centered as I tried to capture the fast-moving bird at maximum zoom. But on second look I could see that cropping the image appropriately made a very strong image that captured the intensity of the eagle's focus as it looked for food.
