Species: Elk | Location: Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Colorado, USA
We were returning from a wonderful hike to Gem Lake, west of Estes Park, Colorado, and I was happy to call it a day, reminiscing about the fabulous shots I had taken on the trail. All of a sudden there was this beautiful creature, as if sitting in court, a hundred feet off the road. I got out, asked my family to be patient and quiet - as I know I was stalking gold. I approached him humbly and slowly, shooting as I approached. I had only a prime (non telephoto) lens so I knew it would be a "shoot first, zoom later" series. Happily, the light held, and he didn't walk away. Years later he remains to me a symbol of the magnificence of nature's animals and terrains. I hope you enjoy this!
