2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Pelican, Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, United States
Beak Holds More Than His Belly Can

Species: Pelican | Location: Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, United States

This photo was taken at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island in Florida. There wasn't much there to shoot on this particular day. Standing roadside I noticed this pelican starting a long dive to hit the water for food. The light was perfect to capture brilliant detail and vibrant colors. Though I didn't shoot much that day I did at least get this. He is full of water. I don't believe he even got a small minnow. What a hard way for a bird to make a living!

About The Photographer

Cropped me 3 copy

I am a publisher by day and a photographer by day and by night. My photography covers a wide range of interest with the heart of it coming from nature. I never travel without the camera. It is an extension of me. The camera captures a moment in time, conveys a message, provokes thought and more. You capture things in a photo that are at a glance impossible for your eyes to see and too quick for your brain to perceive. Through the eye of a lens you can see amazing thought provoking fine details that would otherwise be missed.
