Lion, Sabi Sands in the Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa
Birmingham Boys at Rest

Species: Lion | Location: Sabi Sands in the Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa

The Birmingham Boys are a young lion coalition in the northern Sabi Sands. In November 2015, they had been in control of their territory for only a few months, having ousted the older Matimba males. We sat with four of them through sunset at the Arathusa Waterhole while they seemed to consider what to do next after sleeping all day. They kept an eye on waterbuck across the waterhole but spent most of their timing bonding and resting.
