2016 Wildlife Photo Contest

Great Horned Owls, West Hampton, Long Island, New York, USA
Two Owlettes are Better Than One

Species: Great Horned Owls | Location: West Hampton, Long Island, New York, USA

I was blessed to find these two juvenile Great Horned Owls recently in residence in an Egret's nest. They posed so graciously! I shot the photos on a Friday, before I left for a weekend trip. I didn't really have the time, but I said to myself... "they could be gone when you get back." When I went back to the nest the following Tuesday, they had fledged, and an Egret had reclaimed the nest!

About The Photographer

Cropped janih

I am a self-taught photographer who has been taking pictures since my teen years. I've always loved capturing the dimensions of a scene and especially conveying the emotion of what I am seeing! This is never more true than when I am shooting wildlife and nature subjects. My paying work is as a Public Health Educator, but when I retire I would like to devote more time to my passion of photography. Since I went to Africa a couple of years ago, the time and quality of my photography adventures has increased.
