Species: Blue-footed Booby | Location: Elizabeth Bay, Isabela Island, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
I was on a panga off the Letty, an 84-foot yacht, as part of a Natural Habitat Tour of the Galapagos Islands. We embarked before dawn. The panga driver cut the outboard motor, and paddled in the calm waters of Elizabeth Bay, Isabela Island in the Galapagos. As the sun was beginning to rise, we came upon this blue-footed booby on a lava outcropping. He seemed to be as curious about us as we were about him. Because Galapagos wildlife do not fear humans, we were able to observe and photograph him at will and at very close range. As one who enjoys photographing birds, it was a magical moment during a week of numerous extremely memorable moments.
